Webb29 sep. 2001 · I've got about 5 or 6 SM420 trannys out in my garage and one in my Cruiser. They are tough and you can't beat that low first gear. I wouldn't run anything else for the kind of trails I run. But as mentionioned above these trannys have been around awhile and anything you get for $50 is going to need a rebuild.

If you want their phone# let me know and I'll hunt it up. I put a SM420 in my '42 only to find out that it won't stay in 4th gear. I now have a 2nd tranny I am going to try. Everything seemed to go together easily without problems but my clutch is making a crazy loud high pitch squeal as I push in the pedal or let out the pedal. The 420 has 8 bolts and the tranny you have only uses 7. You won't be able to get any adaptor to bolt up to it.
