WebSupplementary. Intitally developed as a single engined commercial helicopter, but was redesigned in 1969 with two engines. The A109 first flew in August 1971. However the first production aircraft was first completed in 1975 with deliveries starting in 1976. After the merger between Agusta and Westland it got renamed AW109.
