WebTo add on to u/asaver 's answer, you'll also need to install custom firmware (CFW). This is necessary because Fire Emblem Fates (along with most newer games) uses a different encryption on the saves that can't be tackled by homebrew apps by themselves for the time being. Or something like that; I'm no expert on it either!
